Through hands-on experiences, inquiry-based learning, and collaborative projects, we strive to prepare our students to thrive in a complex and ever-changing world, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to impact their communities positively and beyond.
Bible Studies
At Adventist Christian Academy of Charleston, Bible study is essential for all our students, offering them the precious opportunity to know Christ as their Savior and form a personal relationship with Him. The Bible serves as both the curriculum and the textbook for our spiritual education. We also use the Encounter Bible Curriculum, developed by the North American Division (NAD), from Kindergarten through 8th grade, ensuring a thorough and connected spiritual education throughout the students' formative years.
Mathematics
We are committed to providing a comprehensive and engaging mathematics program. Our students benefit from the "Big Ideas Math: Modeling Real Life" curriculum, which is tailored to meet individual learning needs. We supplement this with online tools such as IXL to reinforce and enrich the students' understanding. Our emphasis on hands-on projects brings math to life, helping students to apply mathematical concepts in real-world scenarios and fostering a deep appreciation and understanding of the subject.
Language Arts
Our Language Arts program is meticulously designed to cultivate strong literacy skills, critical thinking, and creativity in our students. Grounded in a Standards-Based Curriculum, our approach emphasizes the development of reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Our K-2nd grade students use the Saxon Phonics Curriculum, which builds a strong foundation in phonics and literacy. From kindergarten through 8th grade, students engage in a variety of literary genres, writing styles, and language conventions to broaden their understanding and appreciation of language. Our curriculum encourages students to explore their imaginations, express their ideas effectively, and engage meaningfully with texts. Additionally, our program is structured to prepare students for NWEA MAPs Testing, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills to excel academically. Through interactive lessons, collaborative activities, and personalized instruction, we strive to empower students to become proficient communicators and lifelong learners.
Science
Our science program, ByDesign, is built on inquiry-based learning. We encourage our students to explore, question, collaborate, and research. This approach sparks curiosity and critical thinking. Our students also engage in STEM for hands-on experiments, allowing them to apply scientific principles practically and solidify their classroom learning through real-world experiences.
History
For History, ACA of Charleston utilizes the McGraw Hill Social Studies curriculum. This robust curriculum is enriched with standards-based planning and includes field trips, activities, and projects that bring historical concepts to life. These experiential learning opportunities make history engaging and relevant, helping our students deeply understand and connect with historical events and themes.
